Mother’s House Blog #2: The College Students

The Crew kicking back and having fun.

Hey everyone. This is blog number 2 as we take a look back at the production of the movie, “Mother’s House.” Now in most cases, small production companies are not going to have the same exact budget as a major company when it comes to hiring crew members for projects. In most cases, small companies would have to mostly rely on college students as they could gain credit along with learning first hand how a movie is made.

For “Mother’s House,” we had film students from Emerson college participate in the fimmaking process. Each student was given different roles. Some assisted the cameraman while others were in charge of setting up lighting and equipment. And while they did not get paid for the grueling days of movie production, they did learn valuable lessons that they can take with them back to school. They learned how everybody had to move fast in order to get scenes done. They learned how frustrating it can be whenever a scene has to be done over again because of someone talking. And they learned that through it all, you can always have fun on the set.

Stars in the making as they have their own projects in the works.

And as I was working with the students, I learned that they have  aspirations to one day become famous filmmakers themselves. Some of the students are working together on a  sitcom in that will be showing on the web in the near future. And while another person is not a college student, he has a movie coming out soon, in which he directed.

While this is the first step for these students, it will definitely not be the last. These individuals have dreams to be something more and this project helped in showing them what it will take to achieve that goal.

"What are you doing at my house?"

Next week, we’ll take a look at another aspect of the production of “Mother’s House” as well as  find out what the progress is as the editing process is starting soon. So in that case, see you next week.

Great that you posted a link to your blog via facebook. I made a little post about your blog on my own blog ( and linked to your page. I can’t wait to hear more about the Mother’s House filming.

They really want to finish the whole project at the holiday time? That would be great.

Thanks for the comment. I’m going to be making weekly posts about the project. I’m still working on the “making of….” video but that will be done soon.
