This was taken last year at the Couture Modeling Studio. Speaking of Couture Modeling, the agency has recently redesigned their website. The link will be posted below if you want to view it.

In the film world, a project I worked is now available for the public to view. Directed by the team of Sara Wolkowitz and Ian Simpson, the film was shot entirely in the hudson valley. Starring Betsy Aidem, Devin McDuffee, and Ethan Slater, Lightning Bugs In A Jar is the story of the fractured relationship between a mother, Farrah (Aidem), and her 22 year-old—but far-from-‘adult’—son, Max (McDuffee). The link will be posted below.

And with Mother’s Day approaching, Delta recently unveiled their commercial celebrating the holiday. What’s more special about this video is that this was entirely shot in Poughkeepsie with some of our local crew.

Photography Session: Alphonso and Stefanie and Pics from last weekend’s workshop

16 07 2015

Hey what’s up everyone? Welcome to another installment of my blog. Today brings another edition of the photography session. This past weekend, we held a workshop at the Couture Modeling studio and a lot of great pictures came out of that day. But before I showcase those, I want to show two new pics that I recently edited.

Alphonso H.V. Gordon of Couture Modeling

Stefanie Perry of Couture Modeling

Stefanie Perry of Couture Modeling

Both photos were taken on the same day that I shot Stefanie in Beacon. Yesterday, I had free time to edit both photos and I’m happy with how both came out.

As I said before, a lot of great photos were produced this past weekend. I’ll showcase a few that I thought really stood out.

Model: Steve Blackmon. Shot and edited by Dan Nilsen. Makeup by Maria Dutcavich.

Shot by Dan Nilsen, the lighting goes very well with Steve’s fierce look as the muscles and veins really pop out.

This was shot by Jeff Lohne. The idea behind this one was to convey the story of stepping out of your comfort zone and going out to chase after your dreams. I like the fact that the element of storytelling is involved in this picture.

And the above photos were shot by yours truly. For both photos, it was all natural lighting. For Brittany, it was perfect timing as the sun was in the right spot to get the shadow of the window to go across her body. For steve’s shot, I just had to bump up the ISO to 500. I could’ve used my external flash but I felt bumping up the ISO was a better option and I’m happy I went with that decision.

So I’ll post links to each photographer’s page if you want to see more photos from last weekend’s workshop. And keep your ears open as we plan to have another workshop in the fall.

The end of June: Doppelgangaz, new picture of Chasaity Colon, and a upcoming workshop

29 06 2015

Hey what’s up everyone? Welcome to another installment of my blog. As of late, this month has been a fairly busy one for me. However, I have time today to make this post just as the end of June is upon us.

The Doppelgangaz

The Doppelgangaz

I haven’t spent much time talking about what’s been happening in the music world due to my busy schedule and I’m happy that I have time to do so today. Earlier in the month, The Doppelgangaz released their digital album, “Parts Unknown.” If you go on their website, you’ll be able to download it for free. While this go around only features eight tracks, it’s quality music that’s enough to hold you til their next album release.

And recently, they uploaded the music video to their single, “Rox Wid Her.”

In the last bit of news, here’s another photo I shot and edited of model Chasaity Colon. I shot this earlier in the month and was able to find time to edit it over the weekend. And before I go, I want to make one very last note.

1559760_10153959359499202_7575043255117221762_nOn July 11th, we’re holding a workshop at the studio for those who want to update their portfolios. If interested, all the information is in the above picture and we still have some spots available. Can’t wait to see you there!

Photography Session: New Pics of Marissa Stearns and Stefanie Perry

15 06 2015

Hey everyone! Welcome to another installment of my blog. Today brings another edition to my photography session series. After finding success with a new style of editing, I decided to try it out on two more recent pics and I’m loving how it’s coming together.

Model: Marissa Stearns. Hair by Nicole Latty and Makeup by Bri Quigley.

The first photo is one that I took of Marissa at a coffee place nearby the studio. I only used a bounce board to provide a slight amount of fill as the natural lighting took care of the rest.

Model: Stefanie Perry. Hair and Makeup by Kristin Pardee.

And the second photo, I shot just outside the studio. I did originally bring my flash but opted not to use it since the natural light was doing a great job. For both pics, the editing was a combination of strategies that I’ve learned and used from the first picture to now. So I’m loving the results that Im now getting with these pictures and I hope you love them as well!

Photography Session with Maria Manrique and New Album coming by D.O.C.

7 05 2015

Hey what’s up everyone? Welcome to another edition of my blog. Today, I will showcase another addition to the photography session as well as showcase new music by D.O.C.

maria3In this edition of the photography session, I shot this photo in mid April with Maria. Like the previous picture with Jenna, I wanted to make interesting results with tweaking the coloring. So while editing, I searched on youtube and came across a tutorial on the “Nashville” color effect that’s usually seen on instagram. The steps they showed were easy to follow and by the time I finished, I ended up with the photo you see right now. In case you were wondering, the tutorial I watched is by Retutpro.

Album will come out on 5/22.

Album will come out on 5/22.

And in the music world, D.O.C. is currently prepping his next album, “Matter of Time,” for a 5/22 release. If you check out his soundcloud page (I’ll post the link below), you can expect the album to be as good as the music on his page. In the above video, D.O.C. is creating another beat in his lab and also does a little bit of freestyling. So mark your calenders and keep an eye out for when his album is released.

Photography Session: Part 2 of the Stefanie Perry Transformation

12 02 2015

Hey everyone! Another installment of my blog is upon us. Today is another edition of the photography session. A while back, I posted part 1 of Stefanie where I gave you a behind the scenes look of her going through the makeup process done by Kristin Pardee. After shooting video, we did a photoshoot right after. Today, I can finally unveil a couple photos from that day.stefani by nick Cooper (2)Both Nick and I shot Stefanie after the video portion of the shoot was done. Both of us had different approaches to this task and the results came out well for everyone involved. Nick went for a dim feel and focused more on waist-up shots. The above shot is unique in that it reminds you of a painting you would see at an art gallery.

stefani by chris washingtonFor me, I mainly did headshots. For my shots, I shot at f/5 with the shutter speed at 1/125th and the ISO at 160. We managed to get a good batch of shots to choose from that night. I’m fortunate that the shots came out well and just as happy to see it get posted on the couture modeling website.

Photography Session: Madison and MacKenzie

27 01 2015

Hey what’s up? Welcome to another installment of my blog. Today is another edition of the photography session. Since I was snowed in yesterday, I took the time to edit a couple photos that I took over the weekend. I was able to take advantage of the weather this past Saturday as it was lightly snowing and it gave the locations a whole new feel.

Shot this at f/4, 1/160 shutter speed, and 100 ISO.

Shot this at f/4, 1/160 shutter speed, and 100 ISO.

I spotted this location on my way to the studio. Roughly in the same area where I shot Dylan months ago, my only concern was the plows coming through and affecting the scenery when I came back there with MacKenzie. Fortunately, they were working other parts of the area and we were able to get some great shots before it was getting too cold.

Shot this one with the same settings that I used with MacKenzie

For Madison, we shot not too far from the location with MacKenzie. Nick discovered this one as we were looking for a place that went well with her outfit. Using the same settings I did with the first model, I managed to get some good shots.

For post production, I experimented and utilized the curves for the first time. I liked the results as it made the pics more lively. Along with that, I made some slight tweaks to coloring and the above pics came out as a result.
