Back from another hiatus

It’s been that kind of summer.

Hey what’s up everyone. Welcome to another installment of my blog. It’s been months since my last post and within that time period, it has been constant work with little free time. But I can’t complain as I get to be in various places in New York City and work alongside a variety of different people.

Beautiful Sunrise.

Unfortunately, I don’t have much to write about on this go around and I’m not sure what the next time  will be when I post. However, you can follow me on instagram @cwashin845 where I’ve been posting pictures of the many sights of my travels.

And before I go, here’s the trailer to the iron fist, a show that I’ve dayplayed on a few times. It’s based on the marvel comic book character. Be sure to catch it when it premieres in March 2017.

Throwback Thursday Photography, Lightning Bugs In a Jar, and a locally produced Commercial

5 05 2016

Hey what’s up everyone? Welcome to another installment of my blog. I hope everyone is having a great week. Today is throwback Thursday and what better way to celebrate than to showcase a little throwback photography.

This was taken last year at the Couture Modeling Studio. Speaking of Couture Modeling, the agency has recently redesigned their website. The link will be posted below if you want to view it.

In the film world, a project I worked is now available for the public to view. Directed by the team of Sara Wolkowitz and Ian Simpson, the film was shot entirely in the hudson valley. Starring Betsy Aidem, Devin McDuffee, and Ethan Slater, Lightning Bugs In A Jar is the story of the fractured relationship between a mother, Farrah (Aidem), and her 22 year-old—but far-from-‘adult’—son, Max (McDuffee). The link will be posted below.

And with Mother’s Day approaching, Delta recently unveiled their commercial celebrating the holiday. What’s more special about this video is that this was entirely shot in Poughkeepsie with some of our local crew.

The Last Stretch of April: King Jack and New Photo featuring Jenna Brand

25 04 2015

The end of April is slowly approaching for everyone and what better way than to spend the last few days checking out my blog! As I head into the last week of the month, I prepare to leave the month of April on a good note. After going through one the worst cold stretches I ever had to start the year, it’s nice to get a good amount of work in and anticipate paychecks coming in. So hopefully the month of May will continue the good stretch.

And as April comes to a close, so does the Tribeca Film Festival. I wasn’t able to attend the festivities this year, but I’m happy to hear that a film I worked on is getting rave reviews.

King Jack

If you haven’t seen “King Jack” yet, the last showing will be at 2:30pm today at the Chelsea Bowtie Cinema. Directed by Felix Thompson, the film has received positive reviews from sites such as Reel News Daily and Collider.com, along with great appraisal from moviegoers. So if you miss out on tomorrow, I’m sure there’s a great chance it will be shown at future film festivals. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’ll show at this year’s Woodstock Film Festival. Check out the links below as they constantly update their sites with information regarding “King Jack.”

As the production season is slowly getting into the swing of things, I will have more to write about in my later posts. Fortunately, I have another photo to showcase before I leave.

Shot near the entrance to the Couture Modeling studio, I managed to get this shot and a few others before the sun broke through. Although I’ve been experimenting with different retouching strategies as of late, I didn’t have to do much with this photo as I spent more time on tweaking the coloring. I was aiming for a “Spring” feel with the coloring and by the looks of it, I think I’ve achieved that goal. Special thanks to Bri Quigley and Nicole Latty for the hair and makeup work and to Jenna Brand for allowing me to take this great photo of her!

New Trailer for “Lightning Bugs” and “King Jack”

10 03 2015

Hey everyone. Welcome to another edition of my blog. While the last few posts have been photography related, it’s nice to spend some time talking about the film world for this go around. With spring coming around the corner, pilot season will start up soon and for most of us, it’ll be a major relief.

Lightning Bugs In A Jar

Lightning Bugs In A Jar

Today, I have a couple things to share. The first being that the short film, “Lightning Bugs In a Jar,” has released their official trailer. I worked on this film last September as a grip. Directed by Sara Wolkowitz and Ian Simpson, “Lightning Bugs In a Jar” is the story of the fractured relationship between a mother, Farrah (Betsy Aidem), and her 22 year-old—but far-from-‘adult’—son, Max (Devin McDuffee). Along with the release of the trailer, it was also announced that the film will premiere at the 68th annual Festival de Cannes in May of this year! So great job to everyone who was involved.

King Jack

Another set of good news was announced not too long ago as well. “King Jack,” another film I was fortunate to work on, will premiere at this year’s Tribeca film festival. The cast and crew was really great to work alongside with. It was also wonderful that the film was shot almost entirely in Kingston, making it a plus for the Hudson Valley. So be sure to keep an eye out for when the schedule’s announced for the festival as we get closer to April.

SXSW Film Festival, Neither Shadow of Turning, and more Couture Modeling Pics

8 02 2015

Hey everyone. Welcome to another installment of my blog. With February underway, we have some projects starting up as well as some films soon starting to get exposure.

SXSW Festival will be from March 13th to the 22nd.

SXSW Festival will be from March 13th to the 22nd.

With the Sundance Film Festival ending last week, we now turn our attention to the next big event. The SXSW Festival will be held in March from the the 13th to the 22nd. To give a short summary, the SXSW festival incorporates a combination of film, music, and technology that are showcased throughout the event. This year is special for some of us as projects we worked on are going to be shown.

Eden Brolin in "I Dream Too Much."

One of the films that will show at the SXSW Festival is one that I was fortunate to work on. “I Dream Too Much” stars Eden Brolin, Danielle Brooks (OITNB), and Diane Ladd. Eden stars as Dora, a young college student who’s stuck at home studying for the LSAT while her friends are traveling around the world. When her aunt injures herself, Dora travels to her estate to help her as she recovers. While tending to her aunt, the imaginative girl discovers her aunt’s hidden romantic past, prompting Dora to dream that their revelation will pull Aunt Vera and herself from their mutual depressions. A lot of people from the hudson valley helped put this film together so having it show at the SXSW Festival is a major accomplishment.

Neither Shadow of Turning.

And while on the subject of film, another potential project is underway. Directed by Adrian Centoni and Justin Derry, “Neither Shadow of Turning” focuses on a religious couple isolated in the woods. When the wife falls ill to ammonia, their faith becomes tested as they rely on prayer to heal her. The above video is a test shoot for one of the scenes, but if you go to the link posted below, there’s another video where both directors go into more detail about the film and what you can do to help put the project all together.

This was shot in Beacon. I wanted a completely different look for shooting Stefanie and a change of venue achieved that.

And before I go, I have a couple new photos I’ve taken. In the above photo, I shot Stefanie at a spot nearby the Beacon Train Station. Along with getting the Newburgh-Beacon bridge in the background, I also managed to get this shot off with the sun slowly setting. One fun fact about this photo: getting to this spot involved me having to carry Stefanie on my back as there was a long distance of deep snow to walk through. Luckily, I had my snow boots with me because otherwise, I wouldn’t have this shot.

The last shot was taken at the underpass outside the studio. Because the sun can never hit the area, I had someone handle a huge bounce board to light up the wall behind Angiee. My original idea involved getting the shadow of the fence into the shot, but it wasn’t possible due to the layout of the area. But the shot came out well otherwise.

New Commercial for Company 1

25 01 2015

Good morning this Sunday. Today is another edition of my blog.

We’re now on the tail end of January. For most of us, January tends to be a brutal month as work is usually scarce so it’s a sigh of relief to see it come to an end. As we turn to February, we see a few productions start up and are in need of crew. Recently, Greg Meola just released a commercial for Company 1 in the event that productions are looking for camera and lighting support.

Detailing everything in his arsenal of equipment, Company 1 is the place to go to if you need lighting equipment and/or camera support for any project. And with the spring season coming around the corner, it’s wise to contact Company 1 sooner rather than later.

Post NYC Marathon: What happened during the hiatus

9 11 2014

What’s up everyone? Welcome to the post NYC Marathon edition of my blog. Yes, it has been nearly a month since my last post due to the NYC Marathon.

In the weeks leading to the city’s biggest event, I was doing various tasks that involved working with different departments of the New York Road Runners. Initially, I was responsible for sorting timing equipment for each checkpoint of the marathon. Later on, I would be assisting the transportation department in moving cargo and people throughout different locations in Manhattan and Staten Island. On the day of the marathon, I was stationed at Mile 26. After setting up timing equipment, I kept an eye on the system as I helped cheer on over 50,000 runners  finish the last 300 meters of the race.

As part of a partnership with the NBA, basketball legends such as Dikembe Mutombo ran as a 24-man relay team over the course of the marathon.

As part of a partnership with the NBA, basketball legends such as Dikembe Mutombo ran as a 24-man relay team over the course of the marathon.

It was a overall great experience to once again be a part of. Watching thousands of people run by you as they get within arms reach of the finish line is something you just have to applaud.  And now that we’re a week away from the race, let’s look at other things that have during my hiatus.

holidaysburg

While I was bobbing and weaving through the hectic traffic of New York City, the film, “Hollidaysburg,” was released on iTunes. Starring Rachel Keller and Tobin Mitnick, the story centers around five friends who return home for thanksgiving after their first semester of college and discover how things have changed or not changed since high school. Directed by Anna Martemucci, the crew consisted of Meena Singh (DP), Chad Dougherty, Stratton Bailey, and a collection of talented individuals. For $9.99, you can download it off of iTunes and based on the reviews, it’s worth the purchase!

Emily is now an official member of the Cirque Du Soleil.

And another set of good news during my hiatus occurred for one of our favorites here in the Hudson Valley. If you’ve been on set with her, you will eventually see her pull off the feat of balancing a ladder on her chin, juggling multiple bowling pins, and doing a multitude of crazy things. That along with the many talents she possess has earned Emily Carragher a spot with the Cirque Du Soleil. Congratulations and good luck, Emily!
